If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall Thy hand lead me, and Thy right hand shall hold me.

ROATAN, HONDURAS MISSION, It is a great pleasure to have James Wolf, D.D.S., write about his first mission experience in May along with his son Don. "I would like to thank the Wings of Morning team for allowing Don and me to accompany them on the recent mission trip to Rotan, Honduras. I have been a member of the Christian Dental Society for a number of years, and have wanted to go on a mission trip for sometime, So why didn't l? In some cases the times conflicted with family, work, and Community commitments However, if I were to be totally honest with myself, the biggest reason was probably fear. Fear of travelling to a foreign country (I've been to Canada but am not sure that counts), fear of not knowing the language, fear of not being an effective witness, fear of not knowing anyone or not being accepted by the rest of the team, fear of doctrinal differences. This list can go on and on tat what it really boils do to is I didn't trust the Lord, I forgot Romans 8:28: "We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose." Now this doesn't mean that as Christians we will never have problems and that things will always go smoothly, but it do mean nothing will ever separate us from the love of Christ; he will always be there at our side to guide us. "The Lord was at our side throughout our trip to Honduras. We arrived at the Miami Airport Sunday and found Tom and Holly Love in line just ahead of us. Although we had never met, they were easy to identify by their green Wings of Morning shirts. Upon our arrival in Honduras we were whisked through the airport and into the waiting van. No hassle. After a short boat ride to the Reef House Resort, we sat down to our lobster dinner. And l thought we were going to be eating beans out of cans on the beach what a surprise! Don and I immediately felt at home with die rest of the team. You could feel God's love in them in the caring way they welcomed us and made us feel at ease. "The next morning we were up bright and early for breakfast. Not the usual cup of coffee and donut here. No sir, this was a real man's (or lady's) breakfast; more then I can eat in a week. By 7:30 we were on the boat and headed for Oak Ridge clinic where we were welcomed by the friendly staff. We set up and immediately started seeing patients. Before the patients where seen the evangelical team members asked them if they could be asked two questions: 1. If you died tonight do you know for sure that you would go heaven? 2. If you died tonight and God asked why should I let you into my heaven, what would you say? The correct answer is that they believe in Jesus alone for their salvation, and sincerely ask Him into their lives to be their Savior and lord, 51 patients received Christ during this week. (103 made decisions in July.) “ "I thought my time would be spent doing mostly extractions, but God had different plans. I had rented a mobile dental unit from the Christian Dental Society, and connected it to a dive tank so I could do restorative work if the need arose. The restorative needs were overwhelming with most patients having multiple areas of decay. I found the majority of the work I did was anterior composites with very few extractions cm my part. I was glad to have my 15 year old son with me. He was a big help. He is quiet and shy in spite of his 6' 3" size, and wasn't sure at first if he wanted to join me. l guess at 15 I would be a little hesitant to be stuck with a bunch of "old folks", too. The team made him feel welcome and by the end of the week he was quite comfortable. He had a good time and was glad he came. The patients where friendly and appreciative, and the staff was anxious to be of help in interpreting the Spanish. We worked til five, then back to the Reef House for an hour's break before dinner. This was a good time to do a little snorkelling on the reef in front of the resort. Then, another great meal! Afterwards we gathered for our evening devotionwhat a wonderful time in praise and worship of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, who suffered and died for our sins but rose again that we may be saved not by works, but by grace through faith in Him. “If you are considering a mission trip, put aside any fears you may have, pray to the Lord for guidance, and remember the words of Psalm 139: If I rise on the Wings of Morning, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast.“ |
